Find Your One Thing
Let’s stop for a while and think about how many projects are you involved in right now. Or simply how many things are you doing at the same time. Do you consider yourself a great multitasker? Here’s the thing: multitasking is bad for you.
Is it really your strength?
A couple of years ago, I used to be a perfectionist with a strong addiction to multitasking. I’ve even put multitasking into my resume as a strength (!). There was nothing like this thrill of doing many things at the same time.
As my adventure with personal development has started, I’ve become more aware of results, not just the number of completed tasks on my to-do list. A real breakthrough for me was the book “One Thing” by Garry W. Keller.
Find your one thing
First, I realized that multitasking is not working. Keller explains why it leads only to more mistakes, greater stress, and poor choices. Instead of trying to do more at the same time, you should focus on one thing, which is so important to you that all other tasks will become easier or even irrelevant. This was like a revelation for me. Imagine that: only one thing.
It was not that easy to find that one thing. It took me a while. To be honest longer than I could imagine, but eventually, the reward was worth it.
I really recommend this book from the bottom of my heart. It really changed my life and the way I think about productivity right now.
